Because velvet grips more firmly than silk, you can often size down from what you would choose in silk.

Hand wash in cool water only. Never machine wash - the agitation flattens the pile permanently and it will not recover. Dry it flat, then brush the pile gently with your fingers once it is dry to lift it back up.
